What Makes Robinia Timber Unique?
In addition to its hardwearing nature, the Robinia tree grows quickly and is naturally disease and pest free.
Exceptional Durability
Extremely durable, it far outlasts other products on the market and has a 30 year expected lifespan. Robinia is naturally resistant to rot, decay and insect damage due to its high tannin content. This means it doesn’t need to be replaced at the same frequency of alternatives, giving a lower carbon footprint and lower cost per use than other timbers.
Naturally Resilient
Robinia Timber doesn’t need to be treated with chemical products, making it an even greener choice for projects large and small.
Fast Growing
It has strong sustainability credentials. Growing to more than 12 metres high and reaching maturity in around 25 years, it provides a biodiverse environment for a range of insects.
Nitrogen-Rich
The Robinia tree is a member of the legume family which means it captures nitrogen and fixes it into the soil. This enriches the soil and makes it more fertile. When you choose Robinia timber, you’re actively helping to protect the earth’s natural resources.
Aesthetic appeal
Robinia timber has a warm, golden colour that weathers to a silver-grey over time, creating a rustic and natural look that complements outdoor spaces.
Beautifully Versatile, Naturally Durable
Thanks to its longevity and super hardwearing properties, Robinia timber is suited to a wide range of applications and uses.
It is perfectly suited as agricultural fencing, viticulture, and equine fencing. Our finished timber products are naturally resistant to warping, rotting, or losing strength when exposed to the elements.
This durability additionally makes Robinia timber a popular choice for outdoor play and leisure equipment as well as beams, floorboards and cladding within domestic and commercial projects.
In terms of Durability, has an official resistance class of 1-2 (BSEN 350-2). You can find more information about this classification on the British Standards website.
Tried and Tested to Last Longer than Alternatives
In terms of value-for-money, the cost of Robinia fencing per year of operation is substantially lower than that of a treated softwood, which may only be fit for purpose for 5 to 10 years.
You can expect Robinia fencing or timber products, such as stakes, posts, joists, poles etc. to last at least 30 years with no annual chemical treatments required.

Natural Durability
What is it?
This test measures the average life in years of 50mm by 50mm heatrwood posts in ground contact prior to failure
Our Robinia Timber has an official resistance class of 1-2 (BSEN 350-2). Guidance on the natural durability of timber is given on the British Standards website.
Why is it useful?
This helps gives a clear indication as to the durability and longevity of a chosen timber in use. This also impacts value for money and other cost considerations.
Janka Hardness Score
What is it?
Why is it useful?
Hard timbers are hard-wearing, tough and relatively impregnable, both to insects, pests, water ingress. In real-world application such as fence or gate posts, damage when in use will be less in hard timbers.
Average Density
What is it?
Wood density measures the amount of actual wood material in a unit volume of wood. It differs widely depending on tree species, moisture content and growth environment. Averages at 15% moisture content are usually quoted.
Why is it useful?
Density is a good general indicator of a wood’s strength, stiffness, ease of drying, machining, hardness and more.
